Projected Capacitive Touch Panel (P-CAP)

Projected capacitive touch is a touch panel that locates by detecting changes in electric field and capacitance. It has excellent characteristics such as long life, high surface hardness, and good light transmittance. It is widely used in various products that require human-computer interaction. It is superior to resistive touch in terms of appearance, durability and sensitivity, and it is also the mainstream of today's products.

The working principle of projected capacitive touch panel is that there are two etched ITO layers under the cover glass, which can form the electric field of X-axis and Y-axis respectively after power is applied. Once a finger or a conductive object approaches the glass surface, the new electric field is induced by the electrodes of X-axis and Y-axis, and the local capacitance value is changed. The control IC can determine the value of X and Y axes respectively according to the change of capacitance value, and thus determine the position of touch. Capacitive touch and traditional resistive touch are very different, the biggest difference is in the number of touch points, resistive touch can only judge one contact point at a time, so it can only perform some simple click and drag actions. Capacitive touch, on the other hand, can trigger a maximum of 10 touch points at the same time, allowing more complex gestures to be performed. Also, because the touch control works by induction, it does not require operating pressure and can be adjusted to non-contact operation when necessary to respond to the current epidemic. It is also durable because it does not need to deform the surface of the cover glass when triggering.
